Article By: Sgt_Lingus330

In a dominant victory, the Old Dominion Monarchs defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 42-28 in a high-scoring affair.

Offensive Breakdown:
Old Dominion controlled the game with an impressive 397 total yards, led by quarterback Colton Joseph, who threw for 295 yards, completing 26 of 38 passes with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. His favorite target was Pat Conroy, who hauled in 8 catches for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Monarchs' rushing attack was also efficient, led by Aaron Young, who rushed for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.

Marshall, while productive in the air with 291 yards passing (17 of 26) and 4 touchdowns from Braylon Braxton, struggled to establish a balanced offense. Braxton also contributed 21 yards rushing, but Marshall was limited to just 53 rushing yards on the night.

Defensive Efforts:
Old Dominion’s defense stifled Marshall’s efforts, forcing a turnover while recording 2 sacks and 8 tackles for loss. EJ Green led the charge with 7 tackles, including a sack, and Jason Henderson was also solid, with 5 tackles and 2 pass deflections. Meanwhile, Marshall’s defense was active with 9 tackles for loss but failed to make the big plays needed to stop the Monarchs' offense.

Key Plays:
Old Dominion’s Red Zone Efficiency: The Monarchs were perfect in the red zone, converting all 6 trips into touchdowns. Their ability to capitalize on these opportunities was key to their victory.
Marshall’s Passing Game: Despite their loss, the Thundering Herd’s passing attack was potent. Elijah Metcalf (3 receptions, 100 yards, 1 TD) and Tychaun Chapman (5 receptions, 73 yards, 2 TDs) were Braxton's go-to targets.
Turnovers: Marshall’s single interception proved costly, as Old Dominion capitalized on it without committing any turnovers of their own.
Special Teams:
In the kicking game, both teams were solid. Old Dominion’s Ethan Sanchez went 6-for-6 on extra points, while Marshall's Rece Verhoff converted all 4 of his extra-point attempts. Neither team attempted a field goal.

Time of Possession:
Old Dominion controlled the clock, holding the ball for 18:03 compared to Marshall’s 9:57, which helped them wear down the Thundering Herd defense.

Final Score:
Old Dominion Monarchs 42, Marshall Thundering Herd 28

Old Dominion’s all-around game, from their balanced offense to their strong defensive play and special teams efficiency, propelled them to a comfortable win, while Marshall’s inability to establish a consistent ground game and failure to convert on third downs (2-of-7) led to their downfall.
