UTEP Raiders Ground Akron Zips, 38-17

Akron, OH — The UTEP Raiders continued their undefeated streak with a convincing 38-17 road win over the Akron Zips on Saturday, improving to 5-0 on the season behind a dominant ground game and a stifling defensive effort.

The Raiders set the tone early and never looked back, using a running back committee to control the tempo. Jevon Jackson led the scoring charge with two touchdowns on just nine carries, while quarterback Skylear Locklear showcased his dual-threat ability with 107 rushing yards on nine carries. Running back Corey Wren added another explosive dimension, breaking off multiple long runs on his way to 102 yards on six carries.

UTEP’s defense was equally impressive, limiting Akron to just 243 yards of total offense and forcing two turnovers. From start to finish, it was a total team effort that left little doubt about the Raiders’ identity on both sides of the ball.

“We’re proud of the guys up front,” said head coach AK. “They really controlled the line of scrimmage and allowed us to lean on the run game. As our passing game continues to develop, it’s good to know we can win this way.”

The Raiders will look to keep their perfect record intact as they return home next week, riding the momentum of a balanced and disciplined performance on the road.
