The Houston Cougars came to San Jose and left the stadium with a victory. The QB Smith was on fire. He completed 30 of 34 passes and had 1 INT. The Cougars were all over the place and the Spartans could not find a way to stop them. The Cougars led at halftime 28-7 with 3 TD passes from Smith and 1 TD from Sanford II. Chalk IV was able to find the endzone in the 2nd quarter, but the damage was done. In the 3rd quarter, the Spartans had the lone score to cut the deficit to 28-14. Houston opened the 4th quarter with a score to push it back out to a 21 point lead. San Jose moved the ball down the field and was able to score to make it 35-21. The Cougar attack marched down the field, but an 84 yd INT return by Dansby allowed the Spartans to be within 7 at 35-28 with a little over 2 minutes to go. The Cougars again marched down the field and settled for a FG to push the score to 38-28. E. Brown threw an INT on the Spartans next possession and the Cougars ran out the clock. After the game, Coach Taruncheel said, "Wow! What a passing game by the Cougars. I need our OC to talk to their OC to see how that is done. They were unstoppable. I am proud that our guys did not give up and they did make a game of it at the end, but we fell short. More practice this week and we hope to rebound next week."
