Champaign, IL – In a hard-fought battle at Memorial Stadium, the Northwestern Wildcats emerged victorious against the Illinois Fighting Illini with a final score of 27-21. Northwestern's dominant performance at the line of scrimmage was key to their win, propelling them to an impressive 10-1 record this season.
The Wildcats' ground game was unstoppable, led by freshman running back Josep Himon, who had a stellar performance with 23 carries for 234 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Mike Wright also made significant contributions, rushing for two touchdowns, bringing his season total to 15.
Defensively, Northwestern was solid, with Coco Azema leading the charge with eight tackles and a forced fumble. Xander Mueller also had a standout game, recording six tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Despite the loss, Illinois' Pat Bryant proved to be a formidable opponent, scoring a touchdown and amassing over 140 receiving yards on more than ten catches.
