The battle for the axe never disappoints and is always a close game no matter what the records or results show in the NDL.
However, it was coach RB winning his 3rd consecutive Paul Bunyans Axe at the helm for Wisconsin in a tough battle from coach Lone. Wisconsin went into the half up 31-10 and appeared to be cruising after a pick six and explosive offensive performance. The 2nd half was another story.
"Credit to coach Lone and Minnesota. They got that TD out of the break and then a pick 6 right after to score 14 quick ones. Crowd was drunk and back in it, really made it difficult for us in the 2nd half" said coach RB.
Wisconsin was slopping the 2nd half, getting themselves sacked into 2nd and 17 situations, then falling just 1 yard short of multiple first down conversions forcing punts.
Gophers scored with 24 seconds left, however coach RB had some words for the offense and they responded. A 30 yard clutch catch by Freshman Trey Kekahuna got UW to the 50, and then QB Tyler Van Dyke caught Minnesota blitzing and hit RB Tawee Walker out of the backfield for another 20 to get them in FG range. a FG with 1 second left sealed the deal!
