James Madison Holds On For Important Win

Article By: jasonuk

James Madison jumped to a 31-7 halftime advantage but needed to hold on late as they secured a 41-28 win over Appalachian State.

The Mountaineers put up nearly 500 yards of total offense as the Dukes struggled defensively in the second half. But the game swung just before halftime when Appalachian State were poised to cut into the lead and had a chance for a late touchdown.

But Jacob Thomas had other ideas. He stepped in front of a pass at the goal line and took it all the way back for a massive touchdown, one of two long Pick-6s the defense would notch on the day.

The other came in the fourth quarter, with the Mountaineers threatening. Chauncey Logan would come up with a huge pick, and then made an unbelievable weaving return to take it nearly 80 yards to the house.

Alonza Barnett III threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns in the win, while tight end Taylor Thompson caught six passes for 142 yards and two scores.

George Pettaway had another strong showing with 20 carries for 129 yards. However he was kept out of the endzone for the first time in SunBelt play.
