Jacksonville State’s bid to break into the top 25 took a serious hit with a 43-36 loss to Sam Houston State on the road. The Gamecocks relied on a strong passing attack led by Tyler Huff, who threw for 364 yards, but couldn’t contain a dominant Sam Houston ground game that racked up 281 rushing yards.
After a slow start, Jacksonville State surged back in the second half, tying the game at 21 with back-to-back touchdowns. However, late-game miscues and explosive plays by Sam Houston’s Ife Adeyi — including two long touchdown runs of 63 and 68 yards — swung the momentum away from the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks had a chance late, and took the lead with a 2-point conversion to go up 1 with a little more than a minute left, but Sam Houston couldn't be stopped even with little time left. This loss leaves Jacksonville State’s slim playoff chances in shambles despite a strong season effort. Their offense showed firepower, but defensive lapses proved costly in a crucial game.
