The Miami Hurricanes would take on the Louisville Cardinals in this week 8 showdown. This would be a big matchup of two possible Conference Championship contenders. The Cards would open the game up with the ball and would put together a very well put together drive. The only problem for them, the drive would stall after 15 plays and they would be forced to kick a field goal. That field goal would bounce off the upright and be no good. The Canes would take advantage and they would find the endzone on their 5th play as Cam Ward would hook up with Chris Johnson Jr for a 30 yard TD and a 7-0 lead. The Canes defense would make a huge play on the next possession. Mishael Powell would intercept the pass and Miami would be right back in business. Miami would connect on a nice pass but George would be tackled and fumble which Louisville would jump on. Miami's defense would get another big stop and the ball would be right back to the Canes offense. This time Ward would connect with Xavier Restrepo for a 76 yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Louisville would go on another long drive, this time of 12 plays, which would end in a 7 yard passing touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7. "We played a great first half," said Coach Dealer, "we made some big plays during that first half and we were feeling really good heading into the 3rd quarter."

Miami would get the ball to start the 3rd quarter and they would only need 4 plays to score again. This time Ward would hit Jacolby George for a 49 yard touchdown to take a 21-7 lead. Louisville would get hot on their next two possessions they would score on a 81 yard touchdown pass and then a 24 yard touchdown pass to tie the game up at 21-21. "We were playing really well and then we had a 2 minute time frame and we were tied back up," said Dealer. The Canes have Cam Ward and he would settle down the offense. Ward would take the Canes on a 9 play drive that would end with a 15 yard touchdown pass to Sam Brown Jr. The biggest play of the game would come early in the 4th quarter. Miami would get the sack, fumble, scoop and score from Ahkeem Mesidor for a 25 yard fumble return TD. Miami would tack on another touchdown after a 4th down stop. This time Damien Martinez would run it in from 17 yards out to push the lead to the final score of 42-21. "We ended up winning by a good amount," said Dealer, "but the score doesn't reflect how close the game was early in the 4th. We need to continue playing like this we got a couple tough games coming up with a trip to Florida St and Duke."
