Week 5: UCLA 28 @ Oregon 38

EUGENE, Ore. — In front of a raucous Autzen Stadium crowd, the UCLA Bruins gave the top-ranked Oregon Ducks everything they could handle — but in the end, it wasn’t quite enough. Despite a gutsy performance and flashes of brilliance on both sides of the ball, the Bruins came up short, falling 38–28 in a hard-fought Week 5 showdown.

From the opening snap, the Ducks’ home-field edge was on full display. With over 54,000 fans turning up the volume, communication became a nightmare for UCLA’s offense. Quarterback audibles were scrambled, and play execution suffered in the chaos.

Still, the Bruins refused to back down. After trailing early, they clawed their way into contention, trailing just 17–14 at the break. But a pair of costly interceptions swung the momentum sharply in Oregon’s favor, setting up short fields and quick scoring drives that the Ducks were only too happy to capitalize on.

“We knew it’d be tough in this environment,” said Bruins head coach Noles26 postgame. “But our guys fought like hell. We just didn’t finish.”

Defensively, UCLA showed serious grit. The secondary came to play, swatting away six passes and picking off Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel once — though they’ll be ruing the missed opportunities to come away with more than just one takeaway.

“We needed picks, not just PDEFs,” one Bruins defender admitted afterward. “But we were right there all night.”

A pivotal — and controversial — moment came in the fourth quarter. Facing 3rd and 11, Oregon appeared to misfire on a pass into the end zone. The ruling on the field was incomplete. The Highlight Official still shows incomplete.

The Ducks’ stadium never showed a replay, and the official review kept fans and players in the dark.
“The explanation we got was ‘touchdown,’ and that’s all we got,” said Coach Noles26

Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives to take away for the Bruins. They showed resilience, composure, and the ability to trade blows with the nation’s best.
