After opening the season with a heartbreaking loss to Georgia, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been battling back on the hard road to get to the CFP playoffs. With some dominating blowouts not being enough to grab the eye of the media voters, tonight's battle with the #11 Louisville Cardinals was a must win to get some respect!
While the opening week loss was a punch to the gut, the defense played fantastic, holding Georgia to just 200yds of offense. That same defense showed up big time tonight for the Irish. This time, they went on the road and posted a shutout of a team that was previously averaged 40 points per game.
QB Riley Leonard found TE Mitchell Evans for a 13yd TD to get the first points on the board after a long ND drive to start the game. Then it was Mitch Jeter expanding that lead to 10, as time expired in the 1st half. In the 3rd quarter, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa got in on the action, intercepting a Tyler Shough pass and returning it for a TD, to give the Irish a 17-0 advantage early in the 3rd. From there, the teams slugged it out, each trying to get a firm grasp on the momentum that would either turn the game around for the Cards or seal it for the Irish. Ultimately, it was Notre Dame's defense with some tough short yardage stands that allowed the Irish to finish off the game, 20-0.
Really good game sgtzt, good luck on your quest to take down the ACC title!
