Syracuse Falls to Georgia Tech in a Hard-Fought 42-34 Road Loss

In a thrilling, back-and-forth contest on the road, the Syracuse Orange football team battled Georgia Tech to the final whistle, but ultimately fell short, losing 42-34. Despite a late-game rally in which Syracuse scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets held on to secure the win.

The Orange fought valiantly, led by quarterback Kyle McCord, who turned in a stellar performance, going 20-for-31 with 285 yards and three touchdowns. His efforts, coupled with key contributions from the offense, allowed Syracuse to claw back into the game after trailing by multiple scores.

Syracuse's Late Rally Falls Short
Trailing by 14 points with just minutes to go in the game, Syracuse mounted a determined comeback. McCord connected with wide receiver Zeed Haynes for a 38-yard touchdown to pull within one score, and running back LeQuint Allen punched in a one-yard score to make it a six-point game. However, despite their best efforts, the Orange could not complete the comeback, with Georgia Tech holding onto the ball late to preserve the victory.

The rally showcased the resilience of Syracuse, especially after the tough start to the game. Coach Mark Berokoff was proud of his team's fight, particularly given the hostile road environment and the challenge of facing a well-coached Georgia Tech team. "I’m really proud of how our guys kept fighting," Berokoff said after the game. "It would’ve been easy to give up, but they showed heart and determination until the very end. This is the kind of effort we need to build on as the season moves forward."

Strong Individual Performances
While Syracuse couldn’t secure the win, there were numerous standout individual performances that kept the game competitive.

Kyle McCord was impressive under center, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with multiple receivers, showing poise and accuracy despite the pressure from Georgia Tech’s defense.

LeQuint Allen had another solid outing, running the ball 22 times for 86 yards and one touchdown. Allen’s hard-nosed running kept Syracuse in the game, and he was a reliable force for the Orange offense.

Oronde Gadsden II, widely regarded as one of the top tight ends in college football, lived up to the hype with five catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. His big-play ability helped keep the chains moving and gave Syracuse a dynamic weapon in the passing game.

Zeed Haynes, a key weapon on the outside, also contributed significantly with four catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. His playmaking ability was crucial in Syracuse’s late push, as he scored on a 38-yard reception that energized the team in the final quarter.

Marlowe Wax, the leader of the Syracuse defense, led the way with eight tackles. His presence and leadership were felt all game long as he continued to be the heart and soul of the defensive unit.

Coach Berokoff’s Reflection on the Game
After the game, Coach Mark Berokoff took a moment to reflect on the tough loss. "Georgia Tech’s coaching staff did a great job preparing their team," he said. "They executed well, and they made the plays when they needed to. That being said, I’m proud of the way our guys competed, especially on the road. We could’ve easily let go of the rope, but we didn’t. We fought until the end, and that’s something we can take away from this."

While the loss stings, Berokoff also expressed his excitement for the rest of the season. "We’re still growing, and we know there are things we can improve on. But I’m excited about this team, and I love the support from our fans. The Orange family is amazing, and that gives us even more motivation to keep pushing forward."

Looking Ahead
Despite the tough loss, there are plenty of positives for Syracuse to build on. The offense continues to show promise, particularly with McCord at quarterback and Allen leading the running game. The defense, led by Marlowe Wax, has the potential to make adjustments and improve as the season goes on.

As Coach Berokoff noted, the key now is to focus on the lessons learned from this game and continue to build the culture of resilience. "This team has a lot of fight in it," he said. "We’re excited about the challenges ahead, and we know we’ll get better with each game."

The Orange will now turn their attention to their next opponent, eager to bounce back and continue the season with the same determination they showed in their rally against Georgia Tech. With a talented roster and strong leadership from Coach Berokoff, Syracuse fans can expect more exciting football in the weeks to come.
