Offensive Performance:
Marshall’s offense was firing on all cylinders, totaling 520 yards, with 356 of those coming from the air. Braylon Braxton was the star of the game, completing 27 of 41 passes for 356 yards and 4 touchdowns, despite an interception. His 166.1 quarterback rating highlighted his efficient and effective performance.
In the running game, A.J. Turner led the way with 19 carries for 80 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Braxton also contributed on the ground with 5 carries for 8 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The receiving corps was explosive, with Tychaun Chapman leading the charge. Chapman had 10 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown, including a 40-yard gain after the catch. A.J. Turner added 6 catches for 85 yards and a touchdown, while Elijah Metcalf contributed 6 catches for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Defensive Highlights:
Marshall's defense was strong, especially in the second half. They totaled 58 tackles, with J.J. Roberts leading the way with 10 tackles. The defense also recorded 3 sacks, with Deeve Harris contributing 2 of them. The Herd forced 1 turnover, an interception by Jabari Ishmael, and limited UAB to just 8 rushing yards. The defensive backfield also made key plays, with Monroe Beard III recording an interception.
Special Teams:
On special teams, Rece Verhoff was perfect on extra points, converting all 6 attempts, though he missed both of his field goal attempts. Alec Clark handled punting duties, averaging 46.3 yards per punt, and placed 2 punts inside the 20-yard line. On returns, Elijah Metcalf had a 35-yard punt return, while Tychaun Chapman contributed with a 21-yard kick return.

Code_one14 completed 28 of 46 passes for 356 yards and 3 touchdowns, but also threw 2 interceptions, which proved costly. Tyler Perry and Chris Lane were among the top receivers, combining for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.

UAB Total Yards: 447 (356 passing, 8 rushing)

Final Thoughts:
Marshall’s offensive explosion, spearheaded by Braylon Braxton and Tychaun Chapman, overwhelmed UAB, while their defense did just enough to limit UAB’s passing game. Despite a strong individual performance from Code_one14, UAB could not keep up with Marshall's balanced and high-powered offense. Marshall's dominance in the passing game and ability to capitalize on key moments in the red zone were the deciding factors in their 42-31 victory.
In a game in which the score was closer than the actual game made it appear, the Marshall Thundering Herd topped your UAB Blazers 42-31.
UAB came out strong in the first quarter and took a 10-0 lead only to see it doubled up as Marshall put up 21 in the second quarter, helped by two turnovers in the UAB end of the field resulting in points for the Herd and they wouldn't look back from there.
With a sputtering ground game and trailing most the game, UAB relied heavily of the arm of QB Jacob Zeno, who went 18-for-28 for 348 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs and a fumble returned for the TD.
With it being the first game of the season, it definitely will take time as the team and coaching staff find each other's strengths and weaknesses, especially finding a way to establish the run to balance their attack, but luckily there plenty of season left to figure it out.
good game coach, good luck the rest of the way
