What happens when you give up 400+ yards to a mid major with a good RB and a crafty coach? You lose, that's what happens. The Spartans embarrassed themselves in the season opener, allowing 3rd down conversions, gashing running plays, blew coverages, and gave the ball away 3 times. It was flat out bad football, and when you put a performance together like this an opponent who you seemed to have the advantage over turns the tables and puts their foot on your neck.
Apart from a 70 yard touchdown run by Nathan Carter the ECU defense held the Spartan offense to 31 yards on 20 carriers. This failure in the trenches epitomized the performance of Michigan State, as they brought nothing but shame with them on the trip back to East Lansing .
