In one of the biggest games of the first block, Kansas traveled to Wisconsin to face off against rival coach RB in a battle to set the stage for each coach's Season 31 aspirations. Turnovers were the name of this game as between the two squads' as viewers were treated to 6 interceptions and 1 fumble.
While turnovers hurt both teams, the Badgers converted them in more key moments and capitalized on their turnover opportunities more to come away with the win. Both teams traded touchdowns back and forth throughout the game but the key moment of the game was when the hard-hitting Wisconsin defense jarred the ball lose from star Kansas RB Devin Neal who had just moved the ball down to the four yard line. That was a game changer as Kansas was looking to take the lead but instead Wisconsin methodically drove 94 yards for a touchdown to stretch their lead to two scores.
Kansas was playing catch up from there and could never do enough to stop the bullying Wisconsin ground game that put up 160 yards behind their massive OL. The Jayhawks did have one last chance to tie the game up by getting the ball back with a little over a minute to go in the game. They quickly moved the ball past midfield before yet again throwing a game changing interception on a lazy pass by Jalon Daniels that was picked off by a hard charging Badger.
That play capped off the victory for Wisconsin and sent the Jayhawks home to lick their wounds and figure out how this season has spiraled out of control so fast. It supposed to be a banner year for the school under a new coach, but it has quickly turned to horror as the fans adjust their expectations to no shot at a national title this season.
Well, it wasn't a clean game by any means, and Wisconsin had multiple chances to go up 2 scores throughout the battle at Camp Randall, but Kansas stayed tough.
In what has turned into a new rivalry game between veteran coaches RB and Razor, Kansas traveled to Madison in a week 2 showdown between good NDL buddies. "It's been fun squaring off against razor. We played a few times 10+ years ago, and now have for the 3rd season in a row. A lot of respect for him and what he does here" said coach RB.
Wisconsin got off to a hot start with home field advantage, intercepting Jalon Daniels to open the game leading to a 1 yard TD run by Tawee Walker, who had a big day running for over 120 yards. Kansas would fight however, keeping the game within striking distances and getting timely stops when UW had a chance to continue to go up 2 scores.
UW could never quite up get 2 scores, as turnovers plagued the Badgers all day. Tyler Van Dyke was able to recover and make some great plays, throwing for 3 TDs but also the 3 INTs hurt, including 1 pick six that nearly cost UW the game.
We went on a drive to end the game that sealed it. The running game and blocking was great, and a nice slant call out of I-Formation is what did it for us. I think it was good to pass out of that formation with all the run success we had all day, said Coach RB. UW scored with 1 minute to go to take a 31-24 lead, and on the ensuing KU drive all-american hopeful Ricardo Hallman picked off Daniels again to seal the deal.
