NDL: S31W1 - Baylor (42) at Liberty (28)

Battle of the Old Men Goes to Baylor

Article By: Cnasty

In a much anticipated battle between these 2 friends, Baylor came out victorious in a close one. Baylor had some huge momentum early building a small lead but every single time Baylor got up 2 scores, Liberty would instantly come down and score on big plays. The back and forth nature of this game shows how equally rated these coaches are and it was a fun game throughout.

Great game Wobbles and looking forward to v2 next year!

Baylor's Dequan Finn torched the Flames' secondary for 387 yards and 4 TDs

Liberty Falls Short Again

Article By: oldmanwobbles

In what could be dubbed "The Friendship Bowl," Liberty's OldManWobbles found himself on the wrong end of a 42-28 decision against new NDL friend Cnasty's Baylor Bears, dropping the Flames to 0-4 in an increasingly challenging debut season.

Kaidon Salter showed flashes of brilliance mixed with continued growing pains, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns and adding three interceptions to Liberty's turnover woes. The ground game continued to sputter, managing just 109 yards, with Quinton Cooley's 60 yards leading the way.

Baylor's Dequan Finn torched the Flames' secondary for 387 yards and four touchdowns, while the Bears' receiving duo of Cameron Bonner and Michael Trigg combined for 275 yards and three scores.
"At least my friend had the courtesy to console me after the game," OldManWobbles might have joked post-game. "Though I'm starting to think my players are taking this 'Flames' nickname a bit too literally - we keep burning ourselves with turnovers."

The game followed what's becoming a painfully familiar pattern for Liberty - staying competitive but unable to get over the hump. Each time Baylor built a two-score lead, the Flames would respond with a quick strike, only to see their hopes of a comeback extinguished by crucial mistakes.
With championship aspirations now firmly in the rearview mirror, Liberty faces the reality of needing to win seven of their final eight games just to become bowl eligible. At this point, OldManWobbles might be wondering if his coaching magic got lost somewhere between Buffalo and Lynchburg.
"On the bright side," the coach might have quipped, "we're getting really good at these post-game speeches about learning from adversity."
