Marshall annihilates JMU

Article By: Sgt_Lingus330

In a one-sided contest, the Marshall Thundering Herd cruised to a 34-0 victory over the James Madison Dukes in a dominant performance. Marshall, led by quarterback Braylon Braxton, exploded for 438 yards of total offense while stifling James Madison, who could muster only 187 yards throughout the entire game.

Offensive Performance: Braylon Braxton had a stellar day, completing 23 of 33 passes for 357 yards, tossing four touchdowns and two interceptions. His connection with Elijah Metcalf was particularly deadly, as Metcalf hauled in four catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing a 23.3-yard average per catch. Tychaun Chapman also had an impressive outing with three receptions for 86 yards and one touchdown. The Herd's balanced attack also saw a solid rushing game with Jordan Houston leading the way, running for 47 yards on 8 carries.

Despite the impressive air attack, the Thundering Herd managed just 81 yards on the ground. However, their aerial offense more than made up for the lack of production on the ground, as they found the end zone four times through the air.

Defensive Domination: Marshall’s defense suffocated the Dukes' offense, recording four interceptions and limiting James Madison to a meager 187 total yards. Monroe Beard III was all over the field, finishing with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack, while J.J. Roberts added two interceptions. The Herd also applied consistent pressure with 7 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. The Dukes’ offense, which was held to zero passing yards, could never get anything going against Marshall's relentless defensive line and secondary.

Special Teams: Marshall’s special teams were efficient and reliable. Kicker Rece Verhoff converted on both of his field goal attempts and was perfect on extra points, finishing with 10 total points. In the return game, Tychaun Chapman had a solid 30-yard kick return, while Elijah Metcalf averaged 6 yards per punt return.

James Madison, on the other hand, struggled across the board. They were shut out on offense with no passing yards, no rushing yards, and no receiving yards. Their defense failed to record any meaningful stats, and their special teams didn't register any returns or punts.
