SMU Dominates Trenches, Rolls Over CAVS

Article By: noles26

Charlottesville, VA – The story remained the same for Virginia as they suffered another lopsided defeat, falling 40-7 to SMU in Week 13. Once again, the Cavaliers struggled in the trenches, with both the offensive and defensive lines overwhelmed from start to finish.

SMU exploited Virginia’s inability to control the line of scrimmage, pounding the ball relentlessly and dictating the tempo. The Cavaliers’ defense had no answers for the Mustangs’ rushing attack, while the offensive line provided little protection, leaving the quarterback under constant pressure. When you can't rely on your already vulnerable AI Defensive Line to so much as sniff the QB, the games are over before they start. When single controlling 1, you would expect the others to rally appropriately, they do not. They stand and watch. Large holes open up, even in crunch time, when you know the coach is just to going to ISO it over and over....But without adaptation, there's not much to do but work on your taxes and watch your defense get blown apart.

With one game remaining in the season, Virginia finds itself searching for answers. But after weeks of the same struggles, the solution seems elusive.

SMU Hitting Strides Under Jennings

Article By: Block M

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA -- HATERS BE DAMNED! SMU is heading to bowl season after starting NDL S31 1-4.

The Mustangs became bowl eligible after a complete team effort today against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Leading the way was SMU QB Kevin Jennings who assumed the starting QB role after the sudden transfer announcement of former start QB Preston Stone. Jennings would go 14/15 on the day with three touchdown passes, two to receiver Jordan Hudson and one to TE RJ Maryland.

Jennings finished the game with a QB rating of 246.1.

Helping Jennings was a consistent run game as SMU ran for over 200 yards with six different rushers being recorded in the stat column.

Defensively, SMU snagged two UVA QB Anthony Colandrea passes and forced a safety when DT Johnathan Jefferson tackled a UVA running back in the end zone after a Isaac Pearson punt was downed at the one yard line.

SMU improves to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the ACC with the win and looks to continue the momentum with a close out win over the California Golden Bears in Dallas before heading to bowl season.
