Dominant Defense and Ground Game Propel Clemson to 35-3 Victory Over Pitt

Clemson delivered a defensive masterclass and showcased a relentless rushing attack in a commanding 35-3 victory over Pitt. From the very first snap, the Tigers set the tone, with Wade Woodaz forcing a fumble on the opening play, sparking a defensive onslaught that would suffocate the Panthers all afternoon.

The Clemson defense was nothing short of spectacular, forcing five interceptions and racking up six and a half sacks. Their relentless pressure left Pitts offense reeling, leading to multiple three-and-outs and setting up the Tigers offense with prime field position throughout the game. RJ Mickens continued his phenomenal season, leading the team with 11 tackles and adding his 10th interception of the year to cap off an outstanding all-around performance.

Fueled by the defenses heroics, Clemsons offense capitalized quickly, exploding for 35 points—all in the first quarter. The Tigers needed just three pass attempts the entire game, leaning heavily on their powerhouse rushing attack.

Phil Mafah was unstoppable, playing just one half yet amassing 237 yards on the ground with three touchdowns. Mafahs bruising runs set the tone, consistently bulldozing through Pitts defense. When Mafah took a well-earned rest, Jay Haynes picked up right where he left off. Haynes showcased his own burst and vision, carrying the ball 12 times for 126 yards, including a breathtaking 51-yard breakaway run.

With 41 rushing attempts and only three passes, Clemsons offense showcased its physicality and dominance in the trenches. The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage, paving the way for the Tigers backs to gash the Panthers for big gains all game long.

Pitts only points came from a lone field goal, as Clemsons defense remained locked in from start to finish, also forcing three fumbles to go along with their five interceptions. It was a complete team performance, and Coach ElJefe was quick to praise his squads relentless mentality.

“This was Clemson football,” Coach ElJefe said after the game. “We came out with fire, executed in all phases, and never let up. Thats how you dominate from start to finish.”

With this victory, Clemson continues to build momentum, showing that their combination of ferocious defense and a punishing ground game makes them a force to be reckoned with.
