Austin, Texas - The Florida Gators picked up a massive road win today, defeating the Texas Longhorns 22-7. The first half of this one saw both teams flex their defensive muscles as both teams struggled to move the ball. The Gators would get some points on the board however thanks to 2 clutch field goals from Trey Smack to head into the break with a 6-point lead. The Longhorns got the ball to start the second half and would go 3 and out, giving the Gators a chance to gain some momentum and they did not disappoint, as DJ Lagway and the Florida offense orchestrated a magnificent drive which was capped off with a screen pass to Montrell Johnson Jr. from 22-yards out to extend their lead to 12. Texas, knowing they needed to put some points on the board to avoid a complete swing in momentum did just what they needed to, answering the Florida touchdown with one of their own on a perfect pitch and catch from Quinn Ewers to Jaydon Blue to make it just a one score game. On the very next drive the Gators, facing a 3rd and 2 from their own 33-yard line, elected to put the ball in the hands of their electric playmaker Eugene Wilson III and he would not disappoint, as he managed to zig and zag his way through the Longhorn defense for the score. Following the touchdown the Longhorns would go back to work and quickly march down the field into Gator territory but facing a 1st and 10 from the Florida 28-yard line Quin Ewers would make his biggest mistake of the game, throwing an ill-advised pass into double coverage and into the arms of linebacker R.J. Moten. With that turnover the Gators secured all the momentum and would put together another monster drive, this time capped off with a 49-yard field goal with just 1:15 left to play to seal the Longhorns fate. "What a win for this program," said coach McDonagh. "We've had some tough losses this season, but to come into an environment like this and walk away with the victory, it feels amazing." With the win the Gators now turn their attention to huge game back at "The Swamp" as they take on one of the top teams in all of the land, the Tigers of LSU.
