Miami would travel to Georgia Tech in this Week 11 showdown with the Canes hoping to leave still with only 1 loss in ACC play. The Canes looked like they would get off to a fast start. After stopping Georgia Tech on their opening possession the Miami offense would come out and move the ball methodically down the field. They would have a 1st and Goal from the 6 yard line. However, the Yellow Jackets defense would stop Miami on 4 straight run plays and would get the ball at the 1 yard line. The next play Georgia Tech running back Jamal Hayes would go 99 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. "That sequence right there hurt quite a bit," said Coach Dealer, "we have struggled a lot this season from scoring inside the 5 yard line, we have to get better about that." The Canes offense would comeback and look a lot better on their next possession. This time Cam Ward would hit Elijah Arroyo for a 28 yard touchdown reception to tie the game at 7-7. Georgia Tech would add a field goal right before the half to take the halftime lead to 10-7. "That first half was not our best offense," said Dealer, "I told the team at halftime that we had to start making some plays and punching it into the endzone when we got down inside the 10."
The Canes would have that opportunity on their first possession this time having 1st and goal from the 8 yard line. This time they would again be unable to punch it into the endzone but would tack on a 28 yard field goal to tie the game at 10-10. Georgia Tech would come right back using a big 51 yard pass play to set-up a 7 yard touchdown pass to go up 17-10. The Canes would not be out done by big offensive plays. This time Ward would hit Xavier Restrepo on an 84 yard reception that would have the ball back down to the Georgia Tech 6 yard line. This time Miami would be able to punch it in as Damien Martinez would score from 2 yards out to tie the game at 17-17. In the 4th quarter Miami would use a very nice drive to score right after the 2 minute warning. Martinez would add his 2nd 2 yard rushing touchdown of the day and have a 24-17 advantage. The Canes defense would bend, but they would not break. Georgia Tech would throw a pick that Mishael Powell would grab at the goalline to help end the game for the Hurricanes.
"That was a tough game, luckily we were able to punch it in a couple times that second half once we were inside the 5 yard line. I have to get our team some better play designs to help get those scores a little easier," said Dealer.
