Wake Forest Knocks Off Bears

Article By: TheRealDray

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons welcomed the Cal Golden Bears to Winston Salem for their ACC tilt; and the Deacs were able to come away with a 31-7 conference victory on the day.

Cal would come out and have an opening drive that was promising with several plays but linebacker Quincy Bryant would snag a pass in the flat and shake off one tackle and stumble his way for the remaining 73 yards to open the scoring 7-0.
The Deacons would capture the momentum and sack Mendoza twice on the next drive to force a 3 and out. Hank Bachmeier would give it back to Cal on a nice int by Matthew Littlejohn but the Demon Deacons defense had their offenses back and forced another 3 and out. This time Bachmeier would find Taylor Morin for 55 yards to extend the lead 14-0.
Again Wake would rise up on defense and force punt from Cal, this time Bachmeier would give it to Morin on a jet sweep for 46 yards to push the lead to 21-0.
Next Cal drive the Deacs would force an int as C’Darius Kelley would snare a Mendoza pass 3 plays later Tate Carney would tote the rock across the goalline to make it 28-0.
Another late int by Nick Anderson would lead to a fg attempt but it was short as a huge gust came through at the last second.
Wake would notch a field goal and cal would finally get a score to make the final 31-7
“We started out a little flat footed and getting pushed back on that first drive but the pick and return by Quincy really sparked our team. We did a good job keeping them out of rhythm and off schedule. That is a dangerous football team and a quality coach. Very glad to have them in our conference!” Dray
Gg Marine! Best of luck rest of the way
