The Gators simply could not hold on to the football when it mattered most

Georgia Defeats Florida, 31-21

Athens, Georgia - The Florida Gators suffered yet another rivalry game loss tonight, falling at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs 31-21. The Gators came into the game knowing they would have to play near flawless football to keep up with the Bulldogs and simply put they did not, turning the ball over an uncharacteristic 3 times (2 fumbles, 1 interception). It also didn't help that the Florida rushing attack, which had been a bright spot, was shut down and put in reverse, totaling just 26 yards on 23 carries. Freshmen wonder kin DJ Lagway did his best to keep the Gators in the game, finishing an impressive 14/17 for 255 yards and 2 touchdowns, but simply could not shoulder the burden on his own. On the defensive side of the football the Gators continued to flash their ability to cause havoc all over the field, totaling 4 turnovers (3 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery), but did give up an eye-popping 402 yards of offense. "Another hostile environment this week and another devasting loss," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "We need to take a good hard look in the mirror and figure out just what kind of team we are. We've shown flashes, but we've also shot ourselves in the foot and in the SEC you simply can't do that. These next 2 weeks are critical to determine just how successful this season will be." Up next for the Gators is a trip to Austin, Texas to face yet another top-tier SEC foe in the Texas Longhorns.
