San Jose State Spartans found a way to win at the end. This game was close throughout the contest. Wyoming had an easy time of moving the ball down the field and throwing against a poor pass defense by the Spartans. Chalk IV was able to gain over 100 yds on the ground rushing and caught a TD pass. A 7-7 halftime game summed up how this game was played. It was slow moving and methodical. Neither team wanted to turn the ball over. In the 3rd quarter, San Jose State was able to force a punt and Bates was able to return it 86 yards for the score. This put the Spartans up 14-7. Wyoming was able to move the ball down the field and found the endzone on a 20 yd strike to make the game 14-14 going into the 4th quarter. San Jose State moved the ball down the field, but a fumble at the 2 stopped the drive. Wyoming then moved the ball down the field and San Jose State was fortunate to pick the ball off and tried to milk the clock for the win. However, they were stopped on 3rd down and Wyoming called a timeout. San Jose State had to put from deep on their side of the field and Wyoming took over with about 12 seconds remaining. On the next pass attempt, San Jose State picked them off again with 7 seconds remaining, but they were on their own 40 yard line. Eget was able to find an open receiver who stepped out of bounds with 1 second remaining at the Wyoming 38. Decision time . . . and San Jose State went for the long field goal. Halvorsen was able to connect from 55. yards out and the Spartans earned the victory!
