Article By: Navy can't stop the 49ers from striking gold today. Charlotte jumped out 6-0 on two first quarter FG's and then scored on a 5 yard pass, but missed the XP.
First half saw Charlotte control the ball, getting key first downs and time after time their defense would step up in big ways to kill any attack that the Navy offense could muster.
Second half would see a missed FG attempt from Navy and another make from Charlotte. The only score for the Midshipmen came early in the 4th quarter when the defense stepped up and took a pick 6 back from 65 yards out. The two point conversion would fail and despite several more possessions, Navy ended up giving it back time after time for a total of 5 interceptions thrown on the game. Back to the drawing board, now that the win goal is out of reach!

Charlotte Defense shuts out Navy Offense

Other than that, most of the bright spots were for mostly the Charlotte D, with some bend/don't break offense. Demon Clowney (2 TFL, 5 tackles) was disruptive all day, and fellow LB turned rushing DE Spellman had a monster game (3 TFL, 0.5 sacks, 4 tackles, 1 FR, 1 PD).
Charlotte didn't allow any conversions of anything (3rd: 0/9, 4th: 0/2, 2 pts: 0/1), and held star FB Tecza to 29 yards on 10 carries. They also only allowed 2 completions, from 15 attempts (and 5 interceptions, so the 49er defense was catching it more than the Midshipmen offense).
The first drive, Charlotte got 2 fortunate bounces to get a FG. Off the upright then the crossbar. The other FGs were more straight forward. The score certainly seemed like an all FG game, but there were 2 TDs (Charlotte missed an XP, and Navy failed on a 4th down).
The first of 5 interceptions led to another Charlotte FG, after a decent goal line stand, to make it 6-0. Then a TD in the 2nd helped make it 12-0 (with the shanked XP). A FG in the 3rd helped solidify the lead to 15-0, forcing Navy to go for a missed 2, and make it a 3 score game (after getting one of them).
