In a day that saw the explosive Kansas offense struggle unlike anything that they've seen this season; the defense rose to the occasion to save the day.
Kansas started out the game against Arizona State with an efficient scoring drive that looked like a promising sign of things to come. No negative plays and no mental mistakes as they cruised down the field for an early 7-0 lead. It all went sideways from there though as the Sun Devils DC immediately adjusted his calls and dialed in on the Kansas offense to perfection. From that point on, it was slog for the Jayhawks as they had more three and outs in one game than they've had all season.
However, the defense on the Kansas side was playing just as lights out as the Sun Devils unit. A defensive battle is not often found in the Big 12 but that's what fans were treated to all game long in Tempe. A busted coverage TD run by Kansas QB Jalon Daniels was the only other offensive TD by the Jayhawks but it got them to halftime with a 14-0 lead.
The second half saw the Arizona State offense come to life as they put up two touchdowns of their own to equal the Kansas output. However, defense continued to rule the day. Arizona State shut out Kansas in a half for the first time all season but more importantly the Kansas defense had two pick 6's against the Sun Devils that ultimately decided the game.
It was a wild night in the desert and Kansas was lucky to escape with a win. All credit goes to the Arizona State DC for calling the perfect game. Kansas moves to 4-2 and next up faces rival Kansas State in the Sunflower Showdown.
