USM Pulls Away Late

A conference battle between the Ragin Cajuns and the Golden Eagles saw two of the highest ranked defenses in the Sun Belt go head to head in a late night Week 6 matchup. The Golden Eagles got out to a hot start but a pick 6 and a late touchdown at the end of the first half for Lafayette had all the momentum going the other way into the break as USM led 21-14. But once again, second half adjustments and another standout performance from Chandler Pittman who ended with over 200 APY and racked up 3 touchdowns helped extend the lead for the Golden Eagles. The Southern Miss defense held Chandler Fields to just 102 yards through the air and under 80 yards on the ground which led to a shutout in the second half and 28 unanswered on the other end. USM looks to stay on form as they finish out the rest of their conference tests in this last block with eyes on a conference championship bid.
