Kansas State Wildcats Tame BYU Cougars in Provo
Coach TexaNole and the Kansas State Wildcats traveled to Provo, Utah, to face Coach TheBruisedBagel and his BYU Cougars. In a matchup filled with strategic adjustments, a behind-closed-doors coaching session led to a revamped Wildcats defense—and it paid off. The Wildcats held a talented BYU offense to 24 points, showcasing a solid defensive performance.
Despite BYU throwing for an impressive 444 yards, turnovers were a critical factor. The Cougars’ three interceptions raised praise for Coach TexaNole. However, the run defense was outstanding, allowing just 23 rushing yards—something he’ll take with pride any day.
On offense, the Wildcats struggled on the ground, managing 212 rushing yards—below their usual standard. But quarterback Avery Johnson’s stellar play made up for it. Johnson completed 18 of 23 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns, spreading the ball to seven different receivers and keeping the BYU defense guessing.
After securing a hard-fought victory, the Wildcats are staying overnight in Provo, celebrating the win with a well-earned soaking party before turning their attention to next week’s battle against Oklahoma State.

Despite going into the half with a 17-14 lead, BYU crumbles in the 3rd quarter. Kansas State scored 28 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter. Some might say this is due to the many turnovers by the BYU offense, and they might just be right. BYU has a great air raid offense. They just need to figure out how to stop turning the ball over. On the defensive side of things, BYU could just not stop the dual threat backfield with DJ Giddens and Avery Johnson running all over the defense. With this, BYU falls to 0-1 in conference play. Not out of title contention, but it certainly isn't looking promising.
