Utah Defenses Dominates Cowpokes

Article By: jasonuk

Utah cornerback Zemaiah Vaughn had a career day, intercepting three passes and scoring a 50-yard pick-6 on Oklahoma State's first possession to spearhead a 35-0 win in Stillwater.

The Utes picked off five passes on the day and also recovered a fumble, putting up their best performance of the season by far. They allowed just 172 yards of total offense on 40 plays, and set their offense up repeatedly with short fields.

Cam Rising threw just five passes but completed four of them for 102 yards, while the offense posted 179 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Micah Bernard rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries, while scatback Dijon Stanley added another 45 yards and a score on four carries.

"I challenged our defense to step up and show that they were worthy of their scholarships and lofty preseason accolades," said Coach JasonUK after the game. "And boy did they respond. I'm proud of how well we ballhawked on the back end, although we were fortunate not to pay for some of the blown coverages we had in the secondary."

The win moves Utah to 2-0 on the young season and gets them off to a winning start in conference play. Up next is a road trip to rival Utah State for the Battle of the Brothers.

GG to Coach ChillChill79 and GL the rest of the season!
