In a season full of disappointment and despair for the Kansas fanbase, the football team has pushed through and finally came away with their first victory in a hard fought 20-17 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Jayhawks fended off a late West Virigina comeback as they successfully fielded an onside kick attempt with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter. Two quick first down plays from Jalon Daniels and Kansas was able to kneel out it's frustrations on a season that was not expected when they first hired Coach Razor.
Credit to the West Viriginia defense as they time and again stifled the Jayhawks offense in the redzone. Kansas was able to drive inside the 20 five times over the course of the game but only came away with 13 points on those trips as the Mountaineers played lights out with their backs against the wall. Two fields goals and two recovered turnovers allowed West Virigina to stay in it instead of having Kansas pull away with the lead.
A methodical coast to coast drive by the Mountaineers to pull within 3 set up the final kickoff and hopes for them to also break into the win column on the year. Thankfully to the Kansas fans and Coach Razor, the Jayhawks hands team was able to fall on the ball and allow them to escape Morgantown with the win and positive momentum as we head into conference play.
