The 1st quarter of this game was a rollercoaster that started on a Maryland touchdown drive, followed by a Terps interception to set up a short field. Billy Edwards Jr found the endzone on the fake jet pass power for a 14-0 lead. This one was quickly tied up 14-14 after Michigan State scored and forced an interception of their own

The wheels were falling off for Maryland as Michigan State took a 21-14 lead with 21 unanswered. Maryland was able to protect the ball and get a touchdown to leave it tied 21-21 at halftime. Poor clock management by Maryland led to no score in the last minute of the 2Q

In the 3rd quarter, no one was able to seize the momentum. Maryland changed that on a third and goal touchdown to Preston Howard over the middle. Edwards Jr stood in the pocket to take the hit with 6 Spartans sent at him. After taking a 28-21 lead, Maryland was still struggling to stop the Spartan offense but 2 fourth quarter interceptions proved critical for the Terps. Ball control and winning the turnover battle were key for Maryland's home opening win
