Article By: Post-Game Recap: Ohio Head Coach Press Conference – New Mexico Bowl Victory Over Wyoming
“First off, I want to congratulate Wyoming on a hard-fought game. They’re a tough, well-coached team, and they made us work for every inch, especially in that second quarter. But I’m incredibly proud of our guys for the way they stayed composed, executed our game plan, and finished strong to bring home a 42-23 win here in the New Mexico Bowl.
Our offense really hit its stride today. P. Navarro had a tremendous performance under center, throwing for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was decisive, accurate, and showed great poise, especially in the second half when we needed big plays to pull away. A huge shoutout to C. Owen—what a game he had. To pull in 8 catches for 189 yards and 2 touchdowns, including that monster 92-yard touchdown reception, shows just how explosive he can be and how well he and Navarro are clicking.
On the ground, while we didn’t rack up a ton of yards, our backs gave us hard, gritty runs when we needed them most, and that kept the chains moving. Defensively, I thought we made some great adjustments in the second half. After Wyoming put up 17 points in the second quarter, our guys tightened up, held them to just 6 points the rest of the way, and forced them into tough third-down situations.
It’s a team win all around, and I can’t say enough about the effort these guys gave. Winning a bowl game is always special, and I’m so proud of our seniors for finishing their careers on a high note. This group has fought hard all year, and today was a testament to their resilience and commitment. Bobcat Nation showed up big, and I hope they enjoyed watching us bring home this trophy.
We’ll celebrate this win tonight, but this is also a building block for the future. Ohio football is on the rise, and we’re not stopping here. Go Bobcats!”
