In what started out as a great matchup between the Hilltoppers of WKU and the Red Hawks of Miami OH, it would be a late 3rd quarter disconnect that ultimately determined the game.
WKU was able to get off to a hot start in the passing game but it was a 99 yard run from their star HB that got the first TD of the game. After being pinned to the 1 yard line from a stellar punt from Miami, HB Elijah Young would break through and run the ball all the way for a TD midway through the 2nd to give the 'Toppers a 10-0 lead.
QB TJ Finley, an LSU and Auburn reject, would then turn around and throw 4 INT's, one being returned for a TD late in the 2nd to get Miami OH within 3.
Defensive play was key for both sides in the 3rd as neither would score through the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. Then the disconnect happened.
Both sides agreed to a 9 minute quarter with WKU starting with the ball to finish out the game. It was all WKU at this juncture as they were able to score two offensive TD's to seal the game.
"It was a great game to be playing in. I can't say it was fun for anyone to watch but for the coaches and the players it was ... entertaining. We've agreed that there should be a rematch and we'll see each other again next season," commented Coach Wasted after the game.
