After a 5-7 season, the BYU Cougars played the Maryland Terrapins in the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona. BYU started the game off with a stop and touchdown, then proceeded to give up 21 straight points. BYU managed to bring it back to a 21-21 game at half. After both teams scored a touchdown in the 3rd quarter it was 28-28. BYU marched down the field but came up just short and settled for a field goal, going up 31-28.
