The RedHawks were hoping to get their season started in a good foot however, that foot was stuck in mud and couldn't get going. The Commodore's took a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter, as the offense for both teams started slow. However, in the 2nd quarter is where the fireworks came out as Vandy made it 14-0, then BANG - Gabbert (QB) threw a strike to Javon Tracy to make it 14-7. The next drive the RedHawks forced a turnover and scored a couple plays after to tie the game. After that it was full down hill for Miami (OH) as the Commodores scored 2 more times in the 2nd Quarter to take a commanding 28-14 lead.
The game was pretty much over after the half as the RedHawk offense was no where to be found. Coach Suddenblues stated "It was a fun game and we look forward to a rematch with coach Quest4gold. Good luck to him the rest of the way and glad I could be his first win!"
The Nate Johnson experience finally rose to the top as Vanderbilt won their first game of the year over Miami Ohio 35-14. Johnson threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Quest said he would have been graded higher if it wasn't for two late interceptions. The game ball though went to the defense as they gave up one long touchdown pass and a short field touchdown drive before scoring the last touchdown on their third interception of the game. Coach Quest said they really mixed up the defenses and shift lines to help confuse their line.
