Auburn Stumbles Into A Win

Article By: Clevenole

It was another slow start for the Auburn Tigers as they went into the secord quarter trailing UTSA 7-0. The frustration from the fans was palpable and the players were playing tight.

After struggling to get much of anything going on offense, the defense woke up for the first time this season. They caused 5 total turnovers (4 int, 1 fumble), two of those interceptions leading to much needed scores. Although the defense made some key plays there is still some concern over the amount of yardage (580), time of possession (17:03), and first downs (23) they gave up over the course of the game.

On offense, it was hard to get much going on the ground as Jarquez Hunter had 11 carries for 86 yards, but it's important to note 80 of those yards came on one big run. QB Payton Thorne finally showed some ball control as he tossed two touchdowns, and his first game without an interception this season. The bright spot on offense was the highly regarded Rivaldo Fairweather who hauled in 7 receptions for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. If the Tigers can continue to figure out how to make him a focal point of the offense things might turn around for this team.

Roadrunners Fall to Tigers 38-17

Article By: vicktim7

The Roadrunners came into Auburn and looked poised for an upset, but miscues and timely Auburn defense turned a possible upset into a frustrating loss. Turnovers were once again the difference in the game as five UTSA turnovers thwarted drives and put points directly on the board for the Tigers. A slow start to the Auburn offense was aided by those same turnovers to switch momentum, and the Tiger offense took advantage with a game turning big run and then pig plays through the air en route to the victory. The UTSA coach commented after the game, "What a frustrating game that was. I felt like we had control early but couldn't capitalize, and then once a turnover happened, they came in waves. Credit their defense for making big plays, but we've got to be better with the ball."
