Tulane football started its season hot Monday night as they defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 33-7. Ty Thompson threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns as Makhi Hughes tacked on two more off 121 yards on the ground.
Tulane came into the game with some questions after falling in back to back Beefy Cup games before season 30 officially kicked off, with fans wondering if the preseason hype had led them astray. Not to worry, as the offense and defense both performed at a high level to kick off the season. A first-possession interception thrown by Vanderbilt led to an early 7-0 score. Tulane continued by stopping them on the next possession, adding a field goal, and subsequently adding two more touchdowns in the second quarter to make it a 24-0 halftime lead.
Tulane scored off the first possession in the second half, jumping up 31-0. Not much happened from there, as coach TilnaciousD was content to run the ball and burn the clock to end the day. Vanderbilt would pick up a late third quarter touchdown pass to get on the board, but it would be too little too late. Tulane picked up a fourth quarter safety to end the game 33-7.
The Vanderbilt Commodores came into season on high hopes, but left with something on their chin and it wasn't very good. Tulane pretty much did whatever they wanted to do as they rolled to a 33-7 victory over Vandy.
There was no bright spots as the defense was invisible and the two Vandy quarterbacks threw more touchdowns to Tulane then themselves.
Coach Quest said it is going to be a long uphill battle this season.
