Miami would travel to Marshall for their Week 4 matchup in hopes to move to .500 on the season with a victory. The Hurricanes would get the ball first and on a 3rd and 2 play from their own 46 yard line, Miami would hit on a big pass play. Cam Ward would find Samuel Brown for a 54 yard TD and an early 7-0 advantage. Marshall would not be phased though. The Herd would come out and look to establish Jordan Houston. Houston would be a problem for Miami all day. Houston would cap The Herd's first possession with a 14 yard TD run to tie the game at 7-7. Miami would get the ball back and look to get the lead back as well. However, the Canes offense would falter and go 3 and out giving the ball right back to Marshall. Marshall was putting a very nice drive together but safety Mishael Powell would intercept a pass at the goal line to stop any scoring. Miami would capitalize and put together a nice 10 play drive. Ward would find Jacolby George on a 31 yard receiving touchdown to take a 14-7 lead. Miami would again be unable to really stop Marshall, but they would hold them to a 40 yard FG attempt, luckily for the Canes he would pull it just wide. Miami would put a quick drive together before the half and would connect on a 38 yard FG to go up 17-7 at the break. "That missed field goal and then us getting a field goal, felt big," said Coach Dealer, "instead of the scoring being 14-10 at the half, having a two possession lead felt nice."
The second half would start and the Miami defense would come out fired up. They would hold Marshall to a 3 and out and got the ball back to their offense quickly. Miami would not need long as on their 5th play of the drive Ward would find Xavier Restrepo for a 34 yard TD reception and a 24-7 lead. Miami's defense would really capitalize on the momentum as on the very next possession, cornerback Daryl Porter Jr would pick off a pass and take it back 55 yards for a TD and a 31-7 lead. Both teams would add one more touchdown on in the game and Miami would take home the victory with a 38-13 win. "The start of the second half, changed the momentum of the game," said Dealer. "To get those two quick scores, it really put us in a nice spot for the rest of the game."
Miami will open up ACC Conference play Week 5 and Week 6 with some tough games against Virginia Tech and Cal.
One of these days Coach Neal will get his first win at Marshall after having a successful run as the interim coach at Virginia Tech. The first quarter was competitive as it was a 7-7 game after the first. Jordan Houston tried his best to keep the team in the game but Braxton threw 3 INTS that were killer and the offensive line and defensive line that had been great in the first half was not able to contain or push the Miami lines in the 2nd half and would wind up losing 38-13. The Herd will look to start off SBC play with a rivalry victory against App State in the next block.
