The Charlotte 49ers hosted Southern Miss last night in the 49ers home opener. The 49ers started out hot, taking a quick 14-3 lead in the first quarter. A mistake by QB Max Brown led to a quick score to start off the second quarter. Charlotte answered though, and held on to a 4 point lead at half time.
Southern Miss seemed to have momentum in the second half, narrowly outplaying the 49ers all the way up until the end of the 4th quarter. With just 4 seconds left, Southern Miss held the ball within the Charlotte 20 yard line all tied up at 45. With everything on the line, they came up short and missed the field goal. The game headed to overtime, where the 49ers DB Al-Ma'hi Ali ran back an 81 yard interception return to take the win.
The 49ers are now headed into a bye week in week 4.
In the first quarter Charlotte takes a early 14-3 lead off a terrible kickoff by Southern Miss, before in the second Charlotte QB Max brown throws a pick six and eventually is up by 4 at half.
In the second half, southern miss starts early and takes a lead before the 4th. Getting down inside the 20 they miss a game winning field goal and it heads to Overtime.
In overtime Tate Rodemaker throws a 81 yard pick six and the game ends 45-51
