Kansas State entered week 3 with a break after their drubbing by the Crimson Tide looking like a new ball club. Efficiency, ball control, and eliminating mistakes was the message from Coach bearass' staff over the bye week. The wildcats received the message and put it into practice against the Toledo Rockets last night. Johnson was efficient accounting for 250+ yards and 2 TDs. The Cats ran for over 100 yards and controlled the game with 17 minutes of possession and forced 5 interceptions by the Rockets quarterbacks. Toledo was resilient and fought back hard to be within 2 scores. K-State had issues with the RBs and tackling. Luckily for the Cats big plays saved the day with 3 TDs over 50 yards and 2 INTs returned for TDs it was too much for the MAC favorite to overcome. Next up for the Wildcats is conference play at home against BYU.
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Rockets started out strong against Big 12 member Kansas State, and was limiting its strong rushing game while tying the game last in the 2nd quarter to make it a 17-17 contest. However, Toledo's secondary then decided to resemble swish cheese for the next 5 minutes of game play, allowing KSU to score on a short pass in the final minute of the opening half, that was then run through numerous defenders who decided to make business desicions and not make the hard play. That long touchdown sparked the Wildcats, who then scored on a similar play to open the third quarter for a big 14-point lead. Toledo meanwhile couldn't get the breaks to fall their way, missing out on a pair of fumbles, while turning the ball over themselves six times. Hopefully for the Rockets they can use this as momentum as they get ready for MAC play.
