NDL: S30W1 - Georgia Southern (34) at Eastern Michigan (31)

Fluke or New Era

Article By: Lambchop99

The Eagles suited up for the season opener in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where they managed to scratch out a victory late in the game. It was a back and forth ball control game the entire time. Turnovers were high on both sides of the ball which created some frustration from the GSU offensive coordinator. Georgia Southern got the ground game going and found their groove to continue moving the chains. The Eagles from Statesboro dominated the 3rd quarter of football, but the Eastern Michigan offense wouldn't be denied and fought back in the 4th. With the score 31-27 with 3:10 remaining in the game, Georgia Southern got the go ahead touchdown and fended the Eagles from the north from another score, ultimately winning the matchup 34-31. They will open the first home game of the season with a strong ACC team coming in to try and disrupt the momentum the Eagles have going. Tune in next week to catch the Eagles take on the Louisville Cardinals in the prettiest little stadium in America.

New Head Coach Gives Reason for Hope

The Eastern Michigan Eagles nearly pulled off an upset against the Georgia Southern Eagles at home this week. Despite entering the game as 14.5-point underdogs, Eastern Michigan put up a strong fight throughout.

The Eagles jumped to an early 14-point lead, but Georgia Southern’s relentless rushing attack soon proved too much for Eastern Michigan's struggling defense. As the game progressed, it became clear that the momentum was shifting. To keep pace with Georgia Southern's dominant ground game, junior quarterback Jeremiah Salem was forced to take risks, resulting in four costly interceptions that ultimately thwarted a late-game two-minute drill.

On a brighter note, sophomore wide receiver AJ Zimmerman had a solid performance, recording five catches for 49 yards. Following the game, new Eastern Michigan Head Coach JBM1031 addressed his team, quoting the greatest college coach ever Deion Sanders: “If I’m around next year, get y’all’s behinds in the portal, because I’m bringing my luggage, and it’s all Louis.”

The loss may sting, but it also serves as a wake-up call for the Eagles as they look to improve and build for the future.
