Cam Ward played a good game, but 2 big interceptions cost them

#18 Hurricanes fall to #2 Alabama

Article By: dealer4014

The #18 Miami Hurricanes came into this game with #2 Alabama hoping to possibly get a little revenge against Coach BigMike. Last year Miami would throw an interception late in the 4th quarter and lose to the BigMike led Mizzou Tigers. The Hurricanes would come out fired up on defense stopping Alabama to a 3 and out. Xavier Restrepo would then break loose on a punt return and would be tackled down at the 11 yard line. After two run plays, Cam Ward would be picked off in the endzone. Alabama would put a decent drive together but would be held to a 49 yard field goal and an early 3-0 lead. Miami would come back out on offense and they would put together a very nice scoring drive that would go into the 2nd quarter. The drive would be 14 plays and would end with a Ward touchdown pass to Damien Martinez from 4 yards out and a 7-3 lead. The Hurricane defense would again come up with another big 3 and out getting the ball right back to the Miami offense. This time the offense would only need 6 plays as Martinez would score on a 7 yard rush and a 14-3 lead. The Alabama offense would finally get clicking and would cap their scoring drive with a 12 yard rush by Jalen Milroe to cut the lead to 14-10. The Hurricanes would come out cautiously, but after a 17 yard pass to Restrepo and a 6 yard pass to TE Elijah Arroyo, the Canes were looking for a possible field goal with :15 left. Instead, Ward would find Jacolby George who got open deep and would score on a 48 yard TD pass to take a 21-10 lead into half. "We played a really good first half," said Coach Dealer, "I would be lying though if I didn't say that pick on our opening drive in the endzone hurt. I really would have liked to get atleast a field goal there."

The Hurricanes would get the ball to start the 2nd half and would look to add another score to their total. The Alabama defense would have other ideas as they would get a 3 and out stop. The Tide would come out rolling and 8 plays later they would score on a 1 yard TD run by their RB. The two point conversion would fail however making the score 21-16. The Canes offense would be stopped again and forced into another 3 and out by the Alabma defense. This time the Tide would only need 3 plays as Milroe would hit Jam Miller for a 67 yard TD and after the 2 point conversion would lead 24-21. The Miami offense would finally get back rolling. They would get the ball all the way down to the Alabama 7 yard line and would be forced into a FG. However, Alabama would rough the kicker, giving the Canes another first down inside the 5 yard line. It would take them 3 more plays but Ward would hit on his 3 TD pass to make the score 28-24. The Alabama offense could not be stopped though in the 2nd half. The Tide would score on a 4 yard TD run with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game to go up 31-28. Miami would put a very nice drive together, but with just under :30 left and inside the 20 yard line, Ward would get picked off by the Tides safety to end the game. "Man that hurt," said Dealer, "losing this game excactly the same way we did last year to Coach BigMike stings. We played a great game but just had two big turnovers that really cost us this game." The Hurricanes will travel to ECU and Marshall in Weeks 3 and 4.

great game BigMike, look forward to playing again

Keon Sabb seals the game with a huge interception

Alabama Escapes Miami, 31-28

Coral Gables, Florida - The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Miami Hurricanes in an absolute barnburner today, escaping with a 31-28 victory. On the offensive side of the football the Hurricanes did a fantastic job keeping the Crimson Tide offense in check and took a commanding 21-10 lead into the break thanks to some terrific passing from quarterback Cam Ward. In the second half the Alabama defense finally came to life, coming up with some big stops to give their offense a chance to get back into the game and that's exactly what they did, scoring 2 unanswered touchdowns to take a slim 24-21 lead. The Hurricanes were unphased though and would put together a monster drive of their own to retake the lead 28-24. The Crimson Tide offense knew they needed to respond and did thanks to a 4-yard touchdown run by running back Jam Miller with just over 2 minutes to go. But there was just one problem; the Hurricanes had plenty of time left on the clock and looked poised to send the Crimson Tide back to Tuscaloosa with their first loss of the season as they marched methodically down the field. Thankfully for Alabama, Cam Ward made a crucial mistake and forced a ball into coverage which was intercepted by Crimson Tide strong safety Keon Sabb to preserve the victory. "It was a wild game for sure," said coach McDonagh at the post-game press conference. "We honestly should have lost, Miami played a much better game than we did, but we were lucky to force a turnover late to hang on." The Crimson Tide now return home to Tuscaloosa to take on the Tar Heels of North Carolina.
