In an unconventional setting at the Cotton Bowl due to electrical issues in Fayetteville, the Arkansas Razorbacks edged the Kansas State Wildcats in a thrilling 38-35 contest. The game featured explosive plays, defensive highlights, and a fourth-quarter comeback attempt that fell just short.
Arkansas set the tone early, with running back Quentin Jackson breaking free for a 28-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. The Wildcats responded in the second quarter as Jordan Allen intercepted a pass and returned it 63 yards for a score, tying the game at 7-7. Arkansas regained control with two touchdowns—another run by Jaquinden Jackson and a 32-yard connection between Taylen Green and Isaiah Sategna. On Kansas State’s next possession, Razorback defender TJ Metcalf extended the lead with a 71-yard pick-six, pushing Arkansas to a commanding 28-7 advantage.
Kansas State showed resilience, narrowing the halftime deficit to 28-14 after Avery Johnson found Will Swanson for a 25-yard touchdown just before the break.
The second half saw a defensive struggle in the third quarter, with Arkansas adding a field goal to extend their lead to 31-14. However, the fourth quarter exploded with action. K-State quarterback Avery Johnson orchestrated a furious comeback, tossing three touchdown passes, including two to Dante Sias. Arkansas managed to maintain their edge thanks to a 67-yard touchdown pass from Taylen Green to speedster Jordan Anthony, which ultimately sealed the game.
The Wildcats outscored Arkansas 21-7 in the fourth quarter, but the Razorbacks held on for the narrow 38-35 victory in a game that will be remembered for its high-energy plays and dramatic finish.
Kansas State couldn't overcome a slow start and a couple of turnovers against the hogs despite a mighty comeback effort late. A great game, a game of runs, found the Hogs up early and often and the Cats clawing back hoping for extra seconds as they gained the momentum. Johnson accounted for 360 yards through the air and woke up the offensive struggles the Cats have struggled with the last couple of blocks. The defense held tougher in the second half giving them their shot but there just wasn't enough time to finish out this one as Arkansas prevailed 38-35.
Fun one Luis, looking forward to a rematch next season.
