Shortcomings Against An ACC Powerhouse
Article By: The Eagles come off a strong victory in the matchup in week one against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Unfortunately, we turned the ball over 4 times in this one not giving us the opportunity to capitalize on great field positions. Our defense fought one heck of a battle all day, but they outplayed us with size and strength. Our offense looked really good; we had some great drives going throughout the game. Mental mistakes are what got us beat on the offensive side of the ball, rushing the pass and allowing interceptions. We look to build back and strengthen our guys up for next week. We're going to put this one behind us and get ready to travel to New Mexico to take on the Lobos.
Cards Win Shootout in the ‘Boro
Article By: The Louisville Cardinals kicked off season 30 with a trip to Statesboro, Ga to take on the Eagles of Ga Southern. The game was a wild one as the Cardinals would ride running back Don Cheney to the victory, 35-28.
Cheney would lead the way but it was his stable mate, Maurice Turner who would get the scoring started with a 14 yard run to make it 7-0.
The Cards would get a stop but Tyler Shough would make a bad read and throw a pick 6 to Jacob Hammonds to tie the game at 7-7.
Louisville would answer back and put together a solid drive capped off by Cheney’s first score of the day, 14-7.
The Cards would snag an int as well and put together another scoring drive and a run by Shough to push the lead to 21-7 at the half.
Southern would take opening 2nd half kick and put it in the end zone on a dot from Williams to Cobb for a tt 21-14.
The Cards would keep some cushion between them and rhe fiesty Eagles as Cheney would again. Find paydirt 28-14
Ga Southern again come down the field led by Jalen White who had an outstanding game in his own right. 28-21
Another answer drive for Louisville as Cheney and Turner would lead the charge 35-21 at the end of 3.
Back and forth in the fourth as Cards tried to extend the lead but key drops would hurt that effort Southern would hit Jalen White on a long td pass as cards defender had an aneurysm in coverage and cuts it to 35-28.
Louisville would have a small drive going but skipped a 53 yard fg and played defense instead. Surprising call to some considering the red & white defense but it panned out with an interception to seal the victory.
“We have got to figure some things out on defense but proud of how the guys battled all day on both sides of the ball. Props to Coach Lamb on a gritty effort and good luck rest of the season.” Said Coach Dray after the game.
