After throwing 4 interceptions in their season opening loss, Coach Wildes came out determined to try not to turn the ball over. This would become obvious, as the Hawkeyes would run the ball 43 times in their road win against Nevada.
Coach Wildes, " We were confident we could win the turnover battle if we ran the ball and stayed true to our identity. You have to tip your hat to the Wolfpack as they would only turn the ball over one time. "
Kaleb Johnson rushed the ball for 229 yards and 1 TD, and TE Luke Lachey would catch 7 passes for 93 yards and a TD.
On defense, the Hawkeyes were led by DB Sebastian Castro. He had 9 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
The unsung stars of the game was the Iowa O-line and FB. They would combine for 46 pancake blocks.
Iowa now looks to host their first home game of the year against in conference rival Minnesota.
Nevada came out full of hope as they hosted Iowa at home. The game was close but Nevada could not stop the Iowa run game! Iowa carried the ball 40 plus times and ate up the clock as the nevada defense couldnt stay off the field.
Nevada competed hard and are still looking for their first win of the season
