The Georgia State Panthers delivered a dominant performance on the road, pouncing on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers to win 34-0 in a Sun Belt clash. The standout story of the game was the Panthers' defense, which completely overwhelmed Coastal Carolina’s offense. Quarterback Ethan Vasko was harassed throughout, with the Panthers' defense forcing a remarkable 12 interceptions. Defensive back Gavin Pringle was the standout playmaker, recording four paws on the ball, picking off four passes and solidifying his role as the team’s leader in interceptions this season. His performance was key in claw-ing back any hope the Chanticleers had of getting anything going offensively.
Despite not needing to go all out on offense, the Panthers’ offensive unit still controlled the game. Running back Freddie Brock had a strong outing, rushing 24 times for 121 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He was running wild like a jungle cat. The offensive line also had an exceptional performance, protecting the quarterback by not allowing a single sack and showcasing their dominance in the trenches with 17 pancake blocks. They were truly laying the smackdown like big jungle cats.
Kicker Liam Rickman was flawless, hitting both of his field goal attempts and going 4-for-4 on extra points, adding crucial points to the scoreboard. His kicks were purr-fectly executed. With this commanding victory, the Panthers improve to a 6-3 overall record and 4-2 in Sun Belt play, keeping them firmly in the mix for a top spot in the Sun Belt East. If Marshall's season doesn’t finish strong, there’s a real possibility that Georgia State could find themselves atop the division—pouncing toward the finish line.
The Panthers are playing solid, fundamental football right now, and their defense, in particular, is playing at an elite level. Coastal Carolina didn’t have a claw in the fight, and with this performance, the Panthers are certainly claw-some as they push toward the postseason.
CCU starting QB throws 12 interceptions in the loss. Why keep throwing? Why not put in the backup? These are tops among many questions that the head coach has to answer following the game.
The defense was also terrible, but no defense can survive all of the bad positions they were put into.
Everybody and everything needs to be reevaluated and/or reset for this program.
