CU beats KAN in “We Here” Statement Win

Article By: Dcanady1

BOULDER, Colo. – The tone was set before the game even began. In the tunnel, moments before taking the field, Colorado head coach Dcanady was heard rallying his team with a simple but emphatic declaration: “We ain’t comin’ no mo’, we here!”

What followed was an instant classic that will be talked about for years, as the Colorado Buffaloes edged out the Kansas Jayhawks in a thrilling back-and-forth showdown Saturday night at Folsom Field. The victory not only solidified Colorado’s status as a rising force in college football but also likely vaulted them into the heart of the playoff race.

The anticipation was palpable even before kickoff. Colorado students started lining up at 3 a.m. to secure their spots in the stands, and by three hours before the game, the student section was already packed and rocking. The energy carried over into the game, creating a deafening atmosphere for what became one of the best games of the season.

Kansas came into Boulder looking to spoil the Buffaloes’ season and made their intentions known early. Quarterback Jalon Daniels delivered a jaw-dropping 84-yard touchdown strike in the first quarter, showcasing his arm and the explosiveness of the Jayhawks’ offense. Moments later, RB Devin Neal turned in one of the most electrifying plays of the year: a 95-yard touchdown run where he bulldozed a defensive tackle at the line of scrimmage and outran Colorado’s secondary to the end zone.

But Colorado didn’t flinch. On the very next play after Daniels’ long run, Buffaloes star Travis Hunter responded with a 75-yard touchdown reception, igniting the home crowd and proving Colorado could trade haymakers with the best. Hunter was electric throughout the game, finishing with five catches for 159 yards and a touchdown.

Kansas continued to flash their big-play ability in the second half, scoring a momentum-shifting kick return touchdown that silenced the raucous Colorado faithful. But while the Jayhawks leaned on their explosiveness, Colorado relied on a more methodical approach. Led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who threw for an impressive 395 yards, the Buffaloes steadily moved the chains, dominating time of possession and keeping Kansas’ defense on the field.

The game came down to the final minutes with Colorado clinging to a three-point lead. Facing a critical third down at the Kansas 28-yard line, Sanders delivered a perfectly timed strike to Kam Mikell. Mikell caught the pass in stride, broke a tackle, and powered his way into the end zone for the game-sealing touchdown. The stadium erupted as the Buffaloes’ faithful roared in celebration, with the student section spilling into jubilation as the realization set in—Colorado had done it.

As the crowd erupted and the clock ticked down, it was clear this wasn’t just another win for Colorado—it was a statement. A team once considered an underdog in the national picture had gone toe-to-toe with a powerhouse program and come out on top.

The victory not only boosted Colorado’s standing in the rankings but also positioned them as a legitimate contender in the college football playoff race. Coach Dcanady’s words will likely echo through Boulder and beyond: the Buffaloes are no longer just arriving—they’ve arrived.

Final Score: Colorado 42, Kansas 35

In a thrilling showdown, the #2 Kansas Jayhawks faced off against the #10 Colorado Buffaloes, but it was the Buffaloes who emerged victorious in an impressive display of skill and strategy. Colorado's quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, showcased his talent by throwing for nearly 400 yards and securing two touchdowns, leading his team to a noteworthy win. Wide receiver Travis Hunter also shone brightly, racking up over 150 receiving yards and adding one touchdown to his impressive stats.

On the ground, Colorado’s running back, Dylan Neal, dominated with 208 rushing yards and two touchdowns, further sealing the fate of the struggling Jayhawks. Kansas, despite their high ranking, found it difficult to gain momentum, hampered by four costly turnovers that ultimately tipped the game in Colorado’s favor.

As the College Football Playoff (CFP) nears, Kansas must regroup quickly. A formidable challenge awaits them as they prepare for a critical matchup against #1 Baylor, which could determine their standings heading into the postseason. This loss serves as a stark reminder of the fine margins in college football, where every play counts.
