The Hurricanes would travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on Wake Forest. Miami was hoping to get off to a fast start and put a lot of pressure on Wake Forest in this game. The Canes would get the ball first and put together a very nice 8 play drive that would be capped with a 13 yard TD pass from Cam Ward to Elijah Arroyo for an early 7-0 lead. The Miami defense would come to play today, they would cause trouble for Hank Bachmeier all game. The defense would combine for 4 interceptions on the day, the first one would be on Wake's opening possession as Jaden Harris would pick off the pass. The Canes would not take long in putting in back in the endzone. Three rushes by Damien Martinez and the Canes would take a 14-0 lead. Miami's defense would force Wake into a quick 3 and out on the next possession and the offense would be right back on the field. This time the Canes would only need 3 plays again, this time Ward would find Damien Martinez out of the backfield for a 41 yard TD pass and a 21-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Wake would put together a nice drive but this time Wesley Bissainthe would intercept the Wake pass and Miami's offense would be right back in business. Miami would put go on an 8 play drive that Ward and Arroyo would connect for their 2nd touchdown of the game, this time on a 43 yard pass. The Canes would be up 28-0 and would be right back in business. On Wake's first play of their next possession Mishael Powell would intercept the pass and Miami's offense was right back on the field. This time it would be Xavier Restrepo's turn as he would take the pass and go 34 yards for the TD and a 35-0 lead. Wake would score right before the pass on a very nice pass that would be fit in between two defenders to cut the halftime lead to 35-7. "We played an incredible first half," said Coach Dealer, "we came out on both sides of the ball and dominated."
The second half was pretty uneventful as Miami would tack on a field goal but the rest of the half would not have much going on.
"I was proud of how our team showed up today," said Dealer, "If we can play that way going forward, I think we will be a tough team to beat."
