In what marked the end of an era for Buffalo football, the Bulls delivered a fitting farewell to head coach OldManWobbles, securing a dramatic 45-42 victory over Eastern Michigan with a last-second field goal at UB Stadium.
The Bulls showed offensive firepower early, jumping to a 35-14 halftime lead behind quarterback Jack Shields' impressive performance. Shields completed 24 of 29 passes for 347 yards and four touchdowns, though two late interceptions kept the game interesting. Running back Lamar Sperling complemented the passing attack with 182 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, including three runs of 20+ yards.
"We wanted to give Coach one last win," could have been the sentiment in the jubilant Bulls' locker room after Upton Bellenfant's game-winning 36-yard field goal split the uprights with just seven seconds remaining.
The victory nearly slipped away in the fourth quarter when Eastern Michigan mounted a furious comeback, highlighted by Porter Brooks' electric 91-yard touchdown reception and Dramarian McNulty's momentum-shifting 79-yard fumble return for a score.
The Bulls' defense, led by Shaun Dolac's 11 tackles and an interception, did just enough to preserve the win. Victor Snow had a standout day receiving with 5 catches for 103 yards, helping Buffalo accumulate 537 total yards of offense.
For OldManWobbles, who confirmed this would be his final game leading the Bulls program, the victory provided a memorable conclusion to his tenure. Despite a challenging season, the team's resilience in the finale demonstrated the fighting spirit he instilled in the program.
"We discussed it, and both sides agreed it was time for a change," OldManWobbles likely reflected after the game. "But ending with a win like this, seeing the team fight through adversity - that's something special to take with us."
The thrilling victory, which featured seven lead changes and over 1,000 combined yards of offense, gave Buffalo its third win of the season and first conference victory. While the overall record may not reflect the team's potential, ending the campaign - and the OldManWobbles era - with such an exciting triumph provides momentum as the program looks toward its next chapter.Last edited 1 minute ago
