That Could Have Been bad!

Waco, TX-

#1 Baylor Bears, 9-0, at home taking on the Winless, 9 loss, doormat of the Big XII, West Virginia Mountaineers, what can go wrong? Apparently, Lone (Head Coach for West Virginia) had the most inspiring, motivating, "wdgaf" speech and got his team ready to roll in this one, and nearly pulled it off.

The first drive of the game, the Mountaineers stopped the Bears on a 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1, as this was a sign of things to come as the West Va sheds were on fire all game. Coach Lone quickly went up 7-0, and then went ahead and forced a Baylor FG and responded with a FG of their own to take the 10-3 lead. Baylor was able to tie it up at 10 but again, WVA was pancaking and making people miss in tight spaces and went up 17-10.

Feeling the flow of the game, Baylor kept a methodical pace, feeling that any tight throws or bad situations, would be their doom. Baylor went ahead and played the clock game in the final mins of the first half and tied it at 17.

WVA got the ball first in the 2nd half, and the BU decided to amp up the pressure to the QB to not allow Garrett Greene any time, well he had no time but then proceeded to shake off MLB Jeremy Evans like he was Justin Bieber following a Diddy party. 33 yards later, WVA is in striking distance, and Baylor seems clueless.

West va takes the 24-17 lead on yet another long play by their offense. Baylor answers quickly to tie it up at 24, and both teams exchanged scores again to make it 31-31 in the 4th quarter. After finally getting the stop they needed, the Bears QB Daquan Finn did the unthinkable and floated a pass out to the left flat, but waaaaaay too far up the field and was picked off by the WVA CB, it's a pick 6 and west va has the lead 38-31 over the #1 team in the land in the 4th quarter!!!!!!!

Have no fear says the Baylor Bears....Baylor drives the length of the field ties it up at 38-38. Now they need a stop. WVA continues to punish the Baylor defense up front and they quickly get themselves in fg range. With proper use of their timeouts the Bars are able to ensure they get the ball back and after being stuffed at the LOS 2 plays in a row, the Mountaineers decide to not go for the jugular at the 1 yard line and instead attempt to kick a hard-angled, right hash go ahead FG. Unfortunately for WVA, it was right the whole way, and never had a chance. Baylor went ahead got a couple of big plays, set themselves up dead straight for the GW fg, and BOOM, it's GOOD! Baylor even survives the FG block animation off the edge to win the game 41-38.

Absolute sweat (not in a bad way) of a game, and by far one of the best games I've been a part of in CFB. Great game LONE, you play like that you will be winning much much moore in the future

What could have been

In a dramatic showdown in Waco, the winless West Virginia Mountaineers came tantalizingly close to pulling off the biggest upsets of the college football season. Facing the undefeated and top-ranked Baylor Bears on their home turf, West Virginia played with grit and determination, but ultimately fell short 41-38

With the game tied at 38 in the final minutes, West Virginia found themselves on Baylor’s goal line, poised to take the lead. However, citing season-long struggles in goal-line situations, the Mountaineers opted for a conservative field goal attempt instead of going for the touchdown. The kick sailed wide, leaving the door open for Baylor.

The top-ranked Bears capitalized, driving the length of the field to set up a game-winning field goal, securing a 41-38 victory.

“It’s a tough call, but we’ve struggled there all season,” said Mountaineers head coach. “We felt that was our best chance.”

The missed opportunity leaves West Virginia still searching for their first win, while Baylor remains unbeaten.
