Memphis wins shootout over UAB

Article By: MGR

The Memphis Tigers improved to 8-1 (6-0) with a thrilling win over rival UAB this afternoon. The 20th ranked Tigers pounced on the Blazers in the 1st quarter and took a 21-0 lead. UAB then went full throttle carving up the Tigers secondary and rallied to tie it up at 21. Memphis with little time left was able to add a much needed FG to go up 24-21 at the break.

Memphis would increase its lead to 10 when a promising UAB drive was ended with a pick six by Memphis. Fast forward to the 4th when another promising drive by UAB would end with a interception inside the Tigers end zone. Memphis however thought they would catch UAB sleeping with a quick pass but UAB would jump the route and score one play later making it 45-42. Memphis was able to get several key 1st downs the rest of way, with none bigger then a completion on 4th and 2 that would seal the game for Memphis

We came out playing great early on but Henigan made a couple of horrible decisions that helped UAB get back in the game . They didn't need any help from us because their offense was very difficult to stop said Coach MGR afterwards.

The Tigers will hit the road again later this week when they face off against Rice

Blazer Win Streak Ends Against Memphis

Article By: coachjackb

coachjackb had a message for his team and Blazer nation after the heartbreaking loss against the Memphis Tigers:

"Although I am disappointed in the outcome, I am not disappointed in my team. Today we fought adversity. Thanks to a missed field goal, and a series of unfortunate plays we went down 21-0 with a little over 4 minutes left in the first half. We could've given up right then and there, but we didn't. On offense we got to work, scoring 2 plays later making it 21-7. Then our defense stepped up getting interceptions on Memphises next two drives, setting up two more touchdowns for Jacob Zeno and the Blazers offense before the end of the half. That is resilience, we were right back in it. We give up a cheap field goal to close the half, then Zeno throws a pick six to put us down 10 early in the third quarter, but we don't give up. Jacob Zeno quickly cuts it to three on the next drive. Our defense can't stop this high powered Memphis offense, but we come back and we score another touchdown to cut it to three again 2 plays later. Memphis got a long touchdown run to put us down 10 again with 4 minutes to go in the 4th. To make matters worse, Zeno makes the wrong read and throws another interception in the endzone with a little over 2 minutes left. This time the defense responds, getting an interception of their own on the next play. Zeno cuts the lead to three on his first play of his drive. Our defense keeps fighting, getting a stop on third down with a little over a minute left in the game. Ultimately we couldn't get it done on fourth down but I am really proud of the belief our team had, and the fight we showed today. In this league there are no moral victories, but we will make sure this loss means something. There were a lot of questions on if we would even be able to compete with teams like memphis, and coaches like bigred. I think today we answered those questions, and we still have a lot to look forward to this season, so we will keep fighting, and keep pushing to win! Blazer Nation, I apologize for the outcome, but we will respond.

Additionally we will be holding Kicker tryouts to any University of Alabama at Birmingham Student who is interested in joining our team."
